Just imagine it--you open your credit card statements and the outstanding balance reads "$0.00"!!! Think it's not possible? Think again, think debt relief programs. Anything is possible when you contact a debt relief company for help with your annoying and ever-rising debt problem.

• A professional debt management counselor will go over your finances with you and ask what resources you have (a house, a car that's paid for, a boat that's paid for, etc.)
• They will ask if you're employed. You may have to tell them what your income is.
• They will determine what debt relief program (or programs) are best for you.

When you look for a debt relief company, you have to do a little homework to make sure you aren't hitching your wagon to a disreputable one. Oh yes, there are dishonest and even fraudulent debt relief companies out there today - so watch your back:

• Make sure the company and its debt professionals are nationally certified and accredited
• Make sure they have a physical street address and a phone number
• Make sure they are willing to answer all of your questions
• If they ask you to pay before they provide services, don't go with them
• If they don't tell you what you can do to help yourself (for free, and before you enroll in any program) then they might not be trustworthy (although this isn't the best indicator)

To find a debt relief company you know you can trust, visit the Department of Justice's website. They have a list of government-approved debt relief companies. To quote Tom Cruise in the movie Top Gun,"If the government trusts me, you should too." (That might not be word-for-word, but you got the point.) And debt will get the point when you get some of that free debt relief!
